Mike Grecian is a highly accomplished artist and art instructor with over four decades of experience in the art world. Born and raised in Illinois, Mike developed a passion for art at an early age and pursued his interest by taking art classes and private lessons throughout his high school years. He went on to earn his MFA degree from Northern Illinois University in 1975. After completing his studies, Mike began working at Goods of Evanston, an art supply store where he had the opportunity to interact with and learn from renowned artists such as Richard Schmidt and Kunio Hagio. During this time, he also acquired some of Richard’s artwork, which he showcases proudly to this day.
In 1979, Mike started his own art supply store in Evanston, which proved to be a valuable learning experience. He had the opportunity to meet and interact with even more artists, who taught him invaluable lessons that he would not have learned in school. Mike has been teaching art at various centers and institutions, including the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), for many years. He considers himself a lifelong learner and takes pride in learning something new every day. In addition to teaching, Mike is an accomplished artist in his own right and has exhibited his work at numerous galleries and shows.
Mike’s passion for art and his dedication to his students have made him a highly respected and sought-after art instructor. He continues to inspire and educate new generations of artists through his classes at the Gateway Art Gallery, where he teaches students about color through various tools and media.
