The Gateway Art Gallery partnered with UF’s Driveway Theatre Project to host “An Evening with John Brown”. This live performance, a short play adapted from William Branch’s “In Splendid Error”, depicted:
a searing dramatic history lesson to reveal the complex friendship, struggle, and heroism of two comrades in the fight to free the slaves.

The event kicked off March 3, 2023 at 5:00pm with a wine and cheese reception, after which attendees were seated for a half-hour long performance, followed by a Q&A with the actors and Director Carol Velasques. This was the Gallery’s first foray into live theater, and it was a smashing success! More than 50 people were in attendance, with tickets sold out days before the show. We look forward to partnering with the troupe again for future events. Keep an eye on our calendar!
