Born and raised in Mystic, Connecticut, Frances (Fran) Thompson was born to create. While her creativity is expressed via multiple mediums such as sewing, quilting, carpentry, writing, etc., her true passion is painting. Fran feels her passion is on the inside and believes this passion must be expressed outward and it’s through her paintings that she can best express this.
Primarily self-taught, Fran gleaned her innate abilities from many people along life’s journey including teachers and siblings. She continued to remain curious and observant and strived to discover something new each time she sat down to paint.
Fran is naturally drawn to contrast and extremely vivid colors and believes this is true for many people. This initial draw to color and contrast is followed by the subject of the painting (i.e., what is the painting of and what is it’s message?)
