Photography is the art form of choice for Herb Ellis. He first exhibited his art photography at the University Gallery in Gainesville, Florida in the 1970s. Then he exhibited his Night Lights Series at Gainesville’s Main Street Gallery in the same
decade.
When he moved to Lake City, Florida he joined the Art League of North Florida and competed with his photography in their spring and fall art shows held at the Levy Performing Arts Center at Gateway College. He primarily works in analogue using what are now old cameras that use film that he hand processes and prints in his darkroom. He believes the silver gelatin print in black and white to be superior to the best digital printing. His subjects include the landscape, portraits, and architecture. He also does street and travel photography. He is currently working on two long-term projects and printing select vintage negatives to 16 by 20 inch prints.
